Mission and Vision statements give us a road-map to help you envision your future. The source material for your mission statement is your values and important relationships. The source for your vision statement is your mission statement. Mission statements take time to develop, and need adjusting periodically. Vision statements restate your mission statements in the present tense, and provide a vision of who you want to become.
Mission Statements
To develop your mission statement you will need to complete the exercises from _my last pos_t, regarding values, and relationships.
A mission statement is based on looking determining who you want to become. Writing your mission statement is an important step in taking control of who you want to become. A mission statement is a concise statement of who you are, and who you would like to become. It can be the basis of major life decisions.
In order to write a good mission statement we need to look deeply within ourselves and identify our motivating values, important relationships and what you enjoy in life.
Creating a mission statement is a deeply introspective process, which may take weeks, months or years to complete. Even when complete, new experiences, or changing circumstances may cause you to decide to rewrite or revise your mission statement.
Take your list of values, and your important relationships. write a rough draft of your mission statement using the source materials. Then write no more than 2 revisions for your mission statement. Keep the third revision, and live with it for at least a week.
Vision Statements
Most top down systems, speak heavily about mission statements. They will call a mission statement a vision statement, or not refer to a vision statement at all. The vision statement is a short concise statement you can carry with you. It is your mission statement summed up, and written as if you have become who you are striving to become.
Your vision statement should be a sentence or two long. It should be easy to carry around with you during the week and help remind you of who you want to become.
To create your Vision statement, read over your mission statement and write a sentence or two about who you will be when you become the person listed in your mission statement.
